Every hike is a pilgrimage. Every step forward is an act of acceptance. Hiking up can be hiking in, given the right conditions. Each small, physical accomplishment is another drop in the ocean of my self confidence. When I think of this ocean inside myself, I imagine the nature, magnitude, and brilliance of that water. I see myself swimming in it: in myself, waves lapping shore, sun illuminating fine blonde hairs on my legs. Time standing still. I think of Rebecca Solnit and a line of hers that I read once and never stopped pondering; "The blue of longing"
